BEIJING, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) According to the official Weibo of the Road Network Monitoring and Emergency Disposal Center of the Ministry of Transport on the 30th, in order to effectively guarantee the national road traffic service during the Spring Festival, the Road Network Monitoring and Emergency Disposal Center of the Ministry of Transport, together with the Road Traffic Safety Research Center of the Ministry of Public Security, the Public Meteorological Service Center of the China Meteorological Administration, the Planning and Research Institute of the Ministry of Transport, Qianfang Technology, Gaode Map and Baidu Map, organized a joint judgment meeting on the road network operation during the Spring Festival holiday. The relevant situation is now reported as follows.
Overall characteristics of highway network operation
The Spring Festival holiday in 2024 lasts for 8 days from February 10 (the first day of the first month) to February 17 (the eighth day of the first month). The free passage time for minibuses with less than 7 seats (including 7 seats) is from 0: 00 on February 9 to 24: 00 on February 17 for 9 days. It is estimated that during the Spring Festival, the weather conditions in the whole country are generally favorable for travel, and there may be staged low-temperature rain and snow weather processes in some areas. Considering factors such as road traffic rules, holiday duration, weather conditions and free passage of passenger cars, it is expected that the national road network operation in the Spring Festival of 2024 will present the following characteristics:
First, the average flow of the Spring Festival exceeded the historical period.It is estimated that during the Spring Festival (including New Year’s Eve), the average daily traffic of expressways in China will be about 50.3 million, which is about 11.6% higher than that during the Spring Festival in 2023.The peak of the whole Spring Festival traffic appeared on the last day of the Spring Festival holiday (the eighth day of the first month), and it is expected to reach about 65.2 million vehicles, setting a new high for the Spring Festival traffic over the years.
Second, the proportion of self-driving buses is high, and trucks run at a low level.It is estimated that during the Spring Festival, the average daily traffic of expressway passenger cars in China is about 48.9 million, and the proportion of passenger cars in passenger cars is expected to reach over 99%. The truck traffic decreased day by day before the Spring Festival, reaching the lowest value on the first day of the first month, and gradually returning to the daily level after the Spring Festival holiday, but the truck traffic is expected to increase compared with last year.
Third, the traffic is low before and then high, and the return trip is concentrated.During the Spring Festival holiday, the road network traffic will show the characteristics of "low before and high after". On New Year’s Eve and the first day of the first month, the road network traffic will reach the holiday trough. From the second day of the first month, the road network traffic will gradually pick up, and the return trip will be concentrated on the eighth day of the first month, and the peak will appear during the Spring Festival. The tidal characteristics of the trip during the Spring Festival and the return trip at the end of the festival are obvious.9: 00 to 12: 00 and 14: 00 to 19: 00 are the periods prone to congestion.
Fourth, the average provincial highway flow is stable, and the peak value is not obvious.It is estimated that during the Spring Festival (including New Year’s Eve), the daily average cross-section traffic volume of ordinary highways will be about 7,800 vehicles, an increase of about 8.2% compared with 2023, as shown in Figure 4. Compared with expressways, the traffic volume of ordinary highways is relatively stable during the Spring Festival, with no obvious peak, which drops significantly before the holiday, reaches the lowest value on New Year’s Eve, and the traffic volume picks up after the third day.
