The steel containment consists of five modules: bottom head, cylinder first ring, cylinder second ring, cylinder third ring and top head, which is the third safety barrier of the nuclear island reactor building. The bottom head is the base of the steel containment vessel, with an inner diameter of 39.624 meters and a height of 11.429 meters. It is welded by 64 arc-shaped steel plates, with a total lifting weight of about 850 tons, including supporting short columns, studs, attached plates, penetrations and other items, and is located in the bottom center of the nuclear island reactor building.

France and Sweden strengthen nuclear energy cooperation

India and Russia sign agreement on other units of Kudankulam nuclear power plant

Russia is one of India’s main partners in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. At present, Russia is building the Kudankulam nuclear power plant equipped with VVER-1000 reactor in Tamil Nadu, India. Unit 1 of the power station started power generation in 2013, and Unit 2 was put into guaranteed operation at the end of March 2017. Units 3, 4, 5 and 6 currently under construction belong to the second and third phases of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Station respectively.

(China Nuclear Think Tank) Recently, the United Arab Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) announced that the charging of Unit 4 of Baraka Nuclear Power Plant had been completed after obtaining the operation license on November 23, 2023. The unit will be put into commercial operation after a series of tests such as power boost test (PAT) and power dispatching.
Baraka has four APR-1400 nuclear power units. Units 1 to 3 were put into operation in April 2021, March 2022 and February 2023 respectively. The plant was built by the Korean consortium led by Korea Electric Power Company, and operated and maintained by Nawah Energy, a joint venture company of Aramco and Korea Electric Power Company. After all four units are completed and put into operation, they can meet about one quarter of the power demand in UAE.
